The theme of this column is treatment of ant. crossbite using MEAW.

MEAW is short for multi-loop edgewise wire and is a wire with multiple shoe hooks.

MEAW has both stiffness and elasticity, helping to effectively move teeth.

Ant. crossbite is difficult to treat with orthodontic treatment alone.

In general, surgical correction is preferred.

If the CR guide is guided to the edge bite, bite jumping may be considered with orthodontic treatment alone.

MEAW can be quite helpful for this.

Placing a MEAW in the mandible and applying Class III elastics are useful.

The consideration is that this type of treatment is treated by ope... Read more

멋진 케이스입니다^^ 수술 환자 상담에도 좋은 reference가 될 수 있을것같아요. 혹시 초진 overjet 이 대략 어느정도 일까요?

Dr.Suki

-4mm 였지만 실제로는 이보다 작습니다. CR guide 유도를 해서 체크해보아야 할것입니다^^

dannyorthodontia

Wonderful case. What do you think is the key difference between using MEAW and using a Class III elastics on a straight wire? Thank you. Doctor. I am reading your good posts so well.

Dr.Suki

It is effective because the MEAW allows individual tooth movement more than straight wire. Thanks~^^

멋진 케이스입니다. MEAW는 straight wire로 잘 안 풀릴때 쓰는 뭔가 필살기 같은 느낌이에요. ^^; 좋은 케이스 감사합니다.

[Column.6] How bionator works

Dr.Suki

...

This is a superimposition of patient using bionator appliance.

You can see the pattern when the removable growth control device is used.

You can see the mandible growing forward with the posterior movement of the maxillary anterior teeth.

Therefore, overcoming the difference between maxilla and mandible is maximized.

p.s. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to leave a comment.

Good treatment result! which functional device do you prefer for Class II? (bionator, twin block, teuscher appliance...)

Dr.Suki

I prefer the bionator among removable appliances. But, I prefer more to use cervical headgear to correct Class II case.

Retraction with mini-screws tends to cause intrusion. (especially with vertical vector.)

As can be seen in the case above, the posterior intrusion causes the mandibular counterclockwise rotation.

This results in forward movement of the tip of the jaw and maximizes the aesthetic improvement of patients who tend to protrude.

Dramatic changes can be observed in precision superimposition using Webceph.

Has anyone experienced this when retraction with mini-screws?

A wonderful TAD case!!! I am reading your column so well. If you are okay, I would like to share opinions about other cases, too.

Dr.Suki

Please share your opinions. Thank you. :)

Nice case! How many mini-screws used in this case?

Dr.Suki

Four mini-screws were used. Two for maxillary teeth, two for mandibular teeth. :)

Today, I will discuss about interproximal reduction.

Patients are often reluctant to extract their teeth. In that case, one of the options you can choose is interproximal reduction.

However, it is not clear how much interproximal reduction will improve the protrusion problem of the patient.

We looked closer into this issue through WebCeph’s precision superimposition feature.

Interproxiaml reduction was performed and spaces were closed with the help of mini-screw.

Though not comparable to extractions, we confirmed some degree of protrusion reduction.

The change in incisor inclination observed through WebCeph analysis was about 10 degrees i... Read more

This is a great article. professor! In real clinical situations, it is often not clear how effective IPR alone can be. Your case help make a prediction about the effectiveness of the interproximal reduction. Thank you.

Ipr is a great tool v nice to read this paper 👍

Dr.Suki

Thank you for the comment Dr.mushtaqahmedhaki :)

doct_omar

i think , you can only have 2-4 mm at the max. so it depends on the amount of protrusion you have from the beginning ,

Dr.Suki

Thanks for your opinion. According to the amount of IPR, maximum amount of retraction may vary, and more with miniscrew.

There is a miscellaneous tip that I want to share today.

Occasionally, depending on the monitor environment or the computer environment, WebCeph is not displayed at the proper resolution.

In that case, press the setting as shown in the picture above, and adjust the zoom to 80 ~ 90%.

Then, you can comfortably use WebCeph on the full screen. I hope it will be a helpful tip. :-)
